Bone Thugs-N-Harmony: Thug Stories
Bone, bone, bone, bone, bone, bone, bone, it seems is forever engraved in your mental imagery whenever you hear the name Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, but with this latest effort they attempt to reclaim their fame with some reminiscent flow although noticeably slower, a new sound, and less baggage.
From the start, Intro hypnotizes listeners with the rapid fire in your face flow the E. 99 thugs are known for. Demanding respect with an unabashed bravado, letting everyone know they started this and ain't taking a backseat to no one.
With such a strong start, it’s unfortunate the trio make an immediate left and head into unchartered waters for them. “Call Me” is a reach at best to show a more player side that doesn’t work for them. While “Thug Stories” and “Don’t Stop” don’t display any lyrical creativity, and plays it safe with a conventional rhythm and unimaginative flow.
Thankfully that’s the end of an uncomfortable period in the album and they come back strong. “Do It Again” puts you in the mind state of dropping the top and hitting the local spots or hitting the road, just as long as you riding. This could have easily been a summer jam if the timing wasn’t off, but is still a jam none the less., “So Sad” attacks the golddiggers and put the proper perspective to it all, “slimy, grimy women, birthing children to make a living”. “Fire” is just as the title indicates, straight fire, with a rapid fire, relentless attack the Midwest boys let you know what they spitting, These three tracks standout the most from the rest of the tracks, showcasing the effortless flow Bone is known for and melodically riding the beat, these tracks make you feel like they picked up right where they left off. Welcome back.
